Student Voting and the Higher Education Act
Students have traditionally been underrepresented at election time. Many believe that young people do not vote because of apathy towards voting. However, recent studies have shown that the reason given by most young adults for not voting is that they did not have good information, including not knowing if they can vote where they go to school. Missing registration deadlines and not knowing how to get registered are other barriers to voting that students face. However, college campuses are one of the best places to reach young voters to give them information on how to register and what they need to have their votes counted on Election Day. College administrators can play a big role in helping students get registered - with little effort. As you know, the Higher Education Act (HEA) requires schools to give their "best effort" in providing students access to voter registration forms and information.

Making Connections: Student Service through Social Networking
Providing service to students has grown outside of traditional bounds of times and formats for most campus administrators. With the increase in students' use of "social media" as a prime source of information, registrar's offices must consider its use as an essential tool. With an emphasis on building relationships and establishing conversations about policies, deadlines, and resources for student success, social media can help in student-service outreach which in the past was limited first to paper, then to email, and more recently to "passive" Web pages. Jeff von Munkwitz-Smith, Interim Vice President for Enrollment Planning and Management and University Registrar at the University of Connecticut, and Scott Dittman, University Registrar at Washington and Lee University, will discuss their experiences with implementing various social networking tools, including Facebook, Twitter, blogs and other social networking tools in a service environment. Complying with Title IX: Responding to Sexual Harassment on Our Campuses
On April 4th, in an unprecedented action, Vice President Biden and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the issuance of a Dear Colleague Letter to our campuses, along with strong words about addressing sexual misconduct. The Dear Colleague Letter, issued from the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, provides further Guidance on Title IX compliance for institutions on campus sexual violence. In this session LeRoy Rooker will provide an overview of the new Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in a one hour AACRAO webinar archive now available. Although institutions have started to adopt the cloud there is major concern among campus IT professionals over security, privacy and services issues. Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering information technology services over the Internet. These services are broadly divided into three categories: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Learning How to Detect Forged Credentials

On any given day across the United States, college or university representatives decide to admit an applicant or to transfer courses for credit. What these well-intended campus officials usually do not know is that the documents on which they base these decisions are forged. A fact: If you and your colleagues are not checking documentation for forgeries, then you can be absolutely sure that you have admitted an applicant or given academic transfer credit to an individual who tampered with his or her documentation. Although the potential for fraud is greater for international applications, altered documentation is not only an international problem.

Unit-Record Issue

Proposals to track postsecondary students through the creation of one or more longitudinal data systems have been around for about a decade. In 2004, the National Center for Education Statistics formally convened Technical Revue Panels to investigate the feasibility of creating a federal "unit-record" data system to replace a number of Integrated Postsecondary Data System's (IPEDS) aggregate surveys. The proposed system, however, was affirmatively banned in legislation to reauthorize the Higher Education Act.
