Impacting Student Retention Through Improved Integration, Alliances, and Communication Strategies
Improving campus-wide retention efforts requires thoughtful planning, systems thinking, relationship building, and careful analysis of data and information. The presenters will show how collaborative student affairs-academic affairs partnerships are a pre-requisite for transforming a campus culture to focus on improving student success. The presenters will share lessons learned from efforts to build an effective retention plan, generate a strategic direction, set retention goals, change culture, improve student services, and involve faculty and professional staff campus-wide. First-to-second year retention rates have increased by 10% over a five year timeframe.

Over the past three years, Lewis University has experienced a 40% increase in freshman enrollment, a 6% increase in first to second year retention, a 4% increase in graduation rates, and higher levels of student satisfaction. These results have been influenced in part by a university-wide planning effort that has utilized existing data and a newly formed Enrollment Management Division to better understand the interplay between student engagement, student success, and the influence on student enrollment.
